How To Maintain Streak-Free Windows

Homeowners are always looking for ways to keep their home windows looking spotless to allow more light into their New Jersey home. This is important to create a bright and airy environment that connects the outdoors to the inside. It may be tricky to figure it out but the proper way to clean your home windows is by avoiding the dangers of scratching and streaking. Read the article below to learn about some tips that can help you clean your windows like a professional.

Avoiding Glass Cleaners

Avoid using glass cleaners that contain alcohol or ammonia. They may seem like they do a better job at cleaning windows but in reality, they are the culprits that leave streaks behind or a thin film that allows moisture and dust to stick. If you are stuck cleaning a difficult spot, stick to a rubbing alcohol or acetone which you can pour onto a clean cloth to rub on the exact spot. After doing so, wipe it dry and clean your windows like always.

Avoiding Razors

Regardless of how difficult the situation may become, avoid using razors or anything sharp like a blade to scrape off the dirt or debris. This may cause permanent scratches to form which may in turn cause your windows to break more easily in the future.

Using a Gentle Wipe

Always use a lint-free and soft wipe to rub the cleaning solution. The most recommended cloth is a microfiber type that is gentle, but a clean paper towel also works just fine. Rub the solution from various directions to prevent streaks and to allow each spot to dry up equally.

Rinsing After Rubbing

After the cleaning methods above are performed but you still end up with streaks on your windows, simply rinse them off with clean water to get rid of any remaining solution.

Commercial Cleaning Solutions

Always purchase cleaning solutions that you trust or you can choose a natural alternative such as a pre-mixed solution that contains vinegar.

Homemade Cleaning Solutions

You can also produce your own cleaning solutions that you can mix from the comfort of your NJ home. Simply use distilled vinegar or white vinegar which is good at breaking down the film of streaks that has accumulated on your windows. All you need to do is mix a unit distilled vinegar to ten units of warm water. Place the solution inside a spray bottle to wipe down windows with a soft and lint-free microfiber cloth.

Proper Cleaning Methods

Use a lint-free wipe to rub the vinegar mixture onto the affected spots with a generous amount of solution onto the glass but avoid any wood, vinyl, or other additional surface areas around the windows to avoid discoloring them. Use a second piece of clean cloth to dry your windows thoroughly and quickly to avoid streaks from forming. If you have multiple windows, do one at a time to prevent them from drying up faster than the rest. Lastly, rinse with clean water if you still spot any streaks after you have cleaned up.
