Wayne was formed from parts of the township of Manchester after an act of parliament was passed in early 1800s. The township is bordered by a number of municipalities including Franklin Lakes in Bergen County, North Caldwell and Fairfield in Essex County and Pequannock and Lincoln Park in Morris County. Wayne houses The William Paterson University; one of the oldest colleges in the Garden State.
