Neighborhood Guide: Alpine, NJ

neighborhood-guide-alpine-nj

Alpine, NJ is an exclusive neighborhood with its ancient palisades, afternoon coffee breaks, serene atmosphere, and charming people. It is one of the best places to live in New Jersey, given its proximity to major cities of the state. It’s an expensive zip code though, so being able to reside here will be better termed as a privilege. Here’s a quick neighborhood guide to get you familiar with Alpine, NJ:

Living in Alpine, NJ

As a small borough in Bergen County, Alpine is just 15 miles away from Midtown Manhattan, which is ideal for those who want to be near bustling city life while being able to retreat in exclusive privacy at home. There is an efficient local transport system here so the locals actually prefer taking the public transit whenever they do not feel like driving.

Alpine is great for families with kids, because of the number of good schools in the surrounding regions and a large percentage of neighbors who are college educated. The residents in Alpine are also known to be affluent, and there is a high home ownership rate of single-family properties here. Well, also given the fact that the crime rate in this borough is among the lowest in the state, its status as a family-friendly location isn’t going to change in the near future. However, if you are looking for a neighborhood that has lots of entertainment options, then Alpine might not be your cup of tea.

Dining Spots

Kiku Alpine

Here, you can find a traditional selection of Japanese food and a sushi bar prepared by theatrical chefs on tableside grills, combined with outstanding service is all you need to make your day count in this NJ neighborhood. You can also come for drinks here after a hectic day.

State Line Lookout Cafe

Have a refreshing morning snack before you plan to go on the hiking trail at the State Line Lookout. The cafeteria serves fresh breakfast meals, and is equally good for having lunch after an exhausting morning of walking trails. The staff members are quite welcoming and very friendly, and they are just as good in giving trail advice as they are in serving an appetizing meal.

Devil’s Tower in Rio Vista

The Devil’s Tower is a famous haunted stone clock tower in the upscale neighborhood of Rio Vista. It was designed by Charles Rollinson Lamb for Manuel Rionda’s wife to enjoy expansive views of the New York City from the Hudson River side of New Jersey. A story has circulated over the years that Rionda’s wife committed suicide by jumping off the tower, after she found out that her husband was cheating on her. Most people visit this spot to see what haunts this place!

Alpine Boat Basin

Located in the Palisades Interstate Park running along Hudson River and the summit of New Jersey Palisades, the Alpine Boat Basin is a pubic marina and a popular picnic location. The area is often a key spot for kayaking, fishing, and hiking trails. The historic Blackledge-Kearney House is also located here while the 1934 open-air stone Alpine Pavilion is available on rent.

State Line Lookout

Want to feel the palisades with a breathtaking view from the sky? Visit the State Line Lookout for a picturesque look over the Palisades at the highest point on the cliffs, at a whopping elevation of 527 feet from the sea level. The area provides over 5 miles of cross-country ski trails and one of the best hiking trails you can experience in the New Jersey Palisades.

As you can see, Alpine isn’t the kind of town you will expect to have loud parties or late nights out at the high street. If you enjoy a rustic setting with a peaceful atmosphere where your lavish house is located, then Alpine is a match in heaven for you and your family. Check out the latest Alpine listings!
