Cresskill is a borough in eastern Bergen County and was incorporated in 1894 from portions of the now-gone Palisades Township. Similar to Tenafly, Cresskill is a very charming bedroom community with close proximity to the George Washington Bridge and New York City.

Shortly after its incorporation, railroad access and proximity to New York make Cresskill the home of Camp Merrit – the major debarkation point for more than a million American troops heading to fight abroad during World War I. The “Circle Monument” (at the crossroad of Madison Ave and Knickerbocker Rd) was put up in 1924 to commemorate the fact.

Post World War II, Cresskill population began to grow with the return of war veterans. Along with it’s neighbor Tenafly, Cresskill has attracted a lot of attention and development in recent years. Similar to Tenafly’s East Hill, Creskill’s Tamcrest neighborhood is filled with multi-Million dollar homes.

Cresskill is just 14 miles from New York City and is serviced by NJ Transit Bus 166 and local service via NJ Transit route 753. Bus services are also available through Rockland Coaches routes 84, 20 and 14. Country routes 505 and 501 run through Cresskill.
