Fairview was formed in the early 1980s from portions of the Ridgefield Township. This was during the peak of the “Boroughitis”; which was the creation of large numbers of small boroughs all across Bergen County resulting from a referendum. The total number of boroughs formed was 26, Fairview being one of them. The borough got its name from its view of the Hackensack River Valley. The borough has a total population of about 13,835 residents with an area of 0.843 square miles and the ZIP code: 07022.

Fairview offers residents a suburban feel. Most occupants are independent home owners and few people live in rentals. The borough has various recreational centers including parks where people go hiking. For those who enjoy shopping, a number of shopping malls including the largest shopping mall in New Jersey—The Garden State Plaza—which is just an hour or so from Fairview.

For families with children, Fairview has a well-established school system with a nationally accredited curriculum to ensure that your children have the best education possible. Public transportation services are available through NJ transit buses that transport people to and from the various bus terminals across the county and New York City.

  • American Folk Art Museum: This museum located in Lincoln square in Manhattan, New York, holds over 8000 items dating from the 18th century to current times. These items include paintings on canvases, paper drawings, textile, ceramic artifacts, and more. The museum hosts several exhibitions yearly to showcase the traditional folk arts. The museum also organizes tours to different cities, to teach people about traditional folk art. The gift shop at the American Folk Art Museum has been dubbed the “world’s best museum gift shop” due to its wide inventory of handcrafted folk items like frames and jewelry, as well as books and note cards.
  • Ascension Greek Orthodox Church: This majestic Greek Orthodox Church has been built with an all-white altar and exquisite Byzantine-like designs. The church is strategically positioned on top of the Fairview cliffs and some say it can be viewed from 30 miles away! Being inside the church is a feeling described by many as simply surreal. Most of the icons like the Pantocrator, which is an icon of Jesus looking down on his people, were painted in Greece and then transported to New Jersey.
